Resolution

HP, don’t read this.

On New Year’s Eve last year, I drove 4 good friends in my little blue Stratus out to a party in Palm Desert. Almost as soon as we got on the 60 east freeway, we began with the resolutions.

We did it a little different. Instead of making up our own resolutions, someone else in the car made one up. We didn’t hold back. I told Ome that she should resolve to actually listen to the advice her friends offered when she specifically asked for it. Ome told Gabby, that she should basically take “the stick out of her ass” and start having some more fun. Gabby told Isa, the roommate that she should stop fighting so much with her boyfriend at the time and actually try to make it work. Isa made up a resolution for Jon, her boyfriend, about being more appreciative of her. Jon made up my resolution.

Speaking for me, Jon said, “I resolve to date a guy who lives in LA.”

Perhaps I should call Jon and tell him that I met his resolution with plenty of time left in the year.

I’m sure Jon would be proud to know that when I call _____ (I need to come up with a good pseudonym), I don’t have to dial a long distance number. I can leave my apartment and be at his place in under 20 minutes if I’m lucky and there’s little to no traffic. The proximity is both weird and great. I see him daily and wonder how at one point not so long ago, I could handle being hundreds of miles away from the guy I was dating.

Things are cool with _____ and I’m happy. It’s nice to have someone who likes the same music, can talk baseball for hours, knows where to find the best tacos, and works in a nearby building.

This is all the chismosos y chismosas will get.

baseball, music, tacos, and only a 20 minute drive… sounds like a keeper!

  2. bomitoni says:

good to hear that :) so will we ever see him?

  3. He’s ugly, just look at that smile, horrible!!!

  4. I didn’t know you were into bald men.

    Suerte!

  5. EMC says:

Interesting way to come up with a resolution for others. It’s hard to not be so blunt. It makes me wonder what kind of resolutoin my friends or my fiancee would make for me. I’m glad to hear you are dating ______.

  6. lex says:

I agree with Joel, sounds like a keeper!

  7. tin says:

i guess that serves all the chismositos. suerte y cuida tu corazon.

    Joel,
There are really a lot more great things about him, but I didn’t want to make this sappy and I still wanted to maintain his and my privacy.

    Bomitoni,
You just might… or maybe already have. Hehe.

    HP,
You have the hating down to an art form. Someone should give you a prize.

    Xoloitzquintle,
Oh, he’s definitely not bald, hehe. Thanks!

    EMC,
I have no idea why we did it that way, but we did. It’s interesting to see where the 5 of us are now in terms of meeting those resolutions and how our relationships have changed. Oh yeah, congratulations! You and Rachelle are beautiful together (though I’m sure both beautiful people as individuals too). When do we get to hear the story of the proposal?

    Lex,
Thanks. You know, I kind of meant to ask your advice about this situation.

    Tin,
Don’t worry. I would have been just as curious, if not more.

Hey Cindy! I had to go look up what “chismosas” were…*embarassed*. I’m sorry I asked who this new person was. I’ve been reading you since waaay back in Diaryland…back when I had a diaryland account too [had to take it down because a creepy person was reading it and trying to find me]. I’m just really happy for you! I’ve always been kinda envious of people who get to go through the whole dating and getting to know people thing. I’ve been with my husband since my freshman year of college, and I love him more than the world, but the whole dating thing fascinates me. What an exciting time in your life!
ps, I have a school related question..sorry I don’t remember if I read about it or now, but did you have to take the GREs? Are they hard? I have to take mine soon, and I’m really not looking forward to it. The program I’m going into requires verbal 450; quantitative, 450; and 4.5 or 45 analytical written. That’s not impossible, right?
    congrats on finding someone!

yeah, long distance dating sucks! I’m glad to hear you found a novio close to home and with such great taste. ;)

  11. Frances M. says:

HP hates himself? I thought for a moment he was your cHaP (no typo intended :)

Whoever he is, a pre-“enhorabuena” (mostly wished on weddings and births of children) to you!

  12. Gusano says:

    At least you’re dating a moreno. :P

  13. oso says:

Wait a minute, I’m confused. Does Isa have a boyfriend or not?

  14. AJ says:

You know, I’m both happy for you and highly jealous.

  15. cindylu says:

    Jenne,
Back at diaryland, I used to be a lot more open about my love life. Not the nitty gritty or anything, but his name probably would have not been a pseudonym. Anyway, I know I get curious when I read others’ posts about their love lives too. Oh yeah, out of 800 it should be pretty easy to get something over 450. If you’re not strong in math, I definitely recommend studying. For the verbal, I studied some too because it’s weird taking a test on a computer. Also, the writing seems to be really easy, but then again, I’m always writing and that’s a whole lot easier for me. Buena suerte (Good luck)! (Oh if you need a book to study, let me know.

    PLT,
Chicago to PR definitely sucks. I always had something holding me down in LA so moving was never an option for me back then. Still, now 20 miles even seems far. Damn gas prices.

    Frances,
My pseudo-romance with HP ended a long time ago over irreoncilable differences. Heh. Eek, mentioning weddings and births of children makes me freak out a little, but thanks!

    Gustavo,
    He’s definitely moreno.

    chismOso,
Isa does have a boyfriend, but it’s not the same guy it was last December.

    AJ,
It took me a minute to remember why you would be jealous. Now, I’m just flattered. Thanks.

i’m so happy for you, cindy and in some ways i envy you as well. it must be nice to have your love so close to you, hopefully within the next year i’ll be able to relate. i’m glad you’ve found someone and i wish you both the best. what’s funny is that i’ve been doing long distance for so long, i can’t imagine what it would be like to have my love within minutes of me..

  17. vicky says:

ps: being in new york, i was reminded of you when i came across an enourmous NY Yankees store, i thought, “my god, a dodger fan would be apalled!” haha.. i suppose its good to find a partner who shares a passion for the same baseball team even. he’s a keeper haha..
like i said, i can’t imagine yet what it’d be like to have my love so close to me at all times but i’d like to find out. wish me luck, and i’ll do likewise.

  18. Esperanza says:

    congratulations, you look cute together!
