Abeja y girasol

pollination is sexy I’ve decided I’m dressing up as a sunflower (or sunflower princess?) for Halloween. I love Halloween and usually dress up. Last year I was Little Red Riding Hood. My mom helped me with my costume and she’ll gladly help again this year.

When I told her about my sunflower idea, I got an interesting reaction. I explained to her that el Venado is going as a “Killa Bee” (with a Wu Tang emblem…), so I thought I’d be the sunflower. After getting over the inital surprise about me dating someone, she said “no más que no te pique.”

On Sunday when I went home we talked about the costume. She bought some fake sunflowers that we’ll use for a crown. We picked up some plain green fabric and some shimmery fabric to make leggings, a shirt, and a skirt made of leaves. She also picked up some cool spiderweb patterned fabric to decorate the bathroom and something for her own costume.

I’m excited about Halloween which is quite normal. Since my mom is very creative and good with the sewing machine, my siblings and I always had great costumes to wear every October 31st. In a couple of weeks, I’ll show off some of the costumes in the past.

For now, you can enjoy my roommate Isa’s photo.

  1. I LOVE Halloween!
As a grade level, we teachers, decided to dress this year as VAMPIRES! It’s so much fun!

    Cuidate!
    Un abrazo.

    ps
and yes, you need to post pictures

  2. I always had the worst costumes… the cheap crap that you buy at CVS and the mask breaks in 10 minutes.
One year I wanted to go as a football player so bad so my mom bought the Redskins outfit and I was so excited! It had a helmet and even came with Joe Theisman’s #7 jersey and everything. I couldn’t wait for Halloween to come… and then Joe broke his leg on national TV!
We had already bought the jersey so I had to wear it and all the kids kept making fun of me and asking where my crutches were… it was a bad halloween.

  3. “Killa Bee” is tight, I admit. But I’ve gotta agree with your mom here, it’s not like you’re going to a Grateful Dead concert. What about a big carton box of half and half that says C.R.E.A.M. ?

  5. Everyone who suggested pictures,
    I won’t let you down.

    Tremaine,
I can’t imagine outgrowing Halloween. My mom doesn’t really dress up anymore but here and my dad did well into their 20s. When we came along, she put the Halloween energy and spirit into her kids.

    Brenda,
If you want to borrow my red hood to be Lil’ Red Riding Hood, let me know. I’m usually full of ideas.

    Coco,
I’ve never been a vampire, but I think wearing the cape, and the teeth would be fun.

    Joel,
Aw, I used to (and still do) feel sorry for the kids with the cheap drugstore costumes. The Joe Theisman story is hilarious, but you just had bad luck.

    Julissa,
The kids from el chavo del 8 make a good group costume. I’ve seen it done a couple of times.

    HP,
Mom’s everywhere will love your Puritan-ness.

    Oso,
Your costume ideas is kinda boring. I don’t get it. Why would I want to be CREAM? And what’s this about a Grateful Dead concert?

    Tumbleweed,
Do you know if they do anything in PR?

    Davo,
You should still dress up and try to get those Melbourne-ites into the spirit.

    Gustavo,
    Of course…
