Mil palabras: otoño

Proof that there are seasons in Southern California
October 23, 2004, at my favorite spot on campus (the secluded bridge between the Fowler Museum and Anderson Business School).

My friend from Chicago, Will, hates it when I complain about the cold in my apartment. Of course, to him my definition of cold is laughable because I live in LA, the land with two seasons. According to Will, LA only has “summer and summer lite.” When the high in mid-November is 78 degrees, I’d agree with him. However, I have to say we do see changes from season to season.

  1. Hello, thanks for the compliment on the image. though I have to say yours is awesome. this is my first post here, but I do remember running into your blog back before the .net domain.

Those leaves look very similar to the ones here in Michigan right about now. from goldish to red colors. I wish I was in the south or southwest right about now. it has been cold, windy and wet latley!

  2. Yes, it’s getting cold. Although I have to admit, that it’s taking forever here in Texas. This past weekend I went to South Padre Island and got into the water. . .la marea roja (Intoxicación Paralítica por Moluscos) me picaba la piel, pero la temperatura de la agua estaba perfecta! It’s a first for me to go to the beach in November.

But yes, I’m so ready for fall! Great pix!

  3. I’m going to have to agree with Will. I’ve been to California (both south and north) and I have tons of friends on that state. If you REALLY want to experience cold, come to NY during the winter and you’ll understand why we sorta laugh when we hear you guys say “it’s cold”. LOL..

I even have friends who get scared when it rains…..imagine you guys in snow… RUN!!!!!

    LOL

  4. so we may not have ungodly weather conditions like most of the country, it’s not our fault we live in a good area. however, we have harsh weather too! i’d like to see chicago folk tough it out in indio in mid summer with no a/c!

  5. Pedro,
I’ve only been to Michigan in March, at the tail end of winter. Luckily, it wasn’t bitterly cold. Nice warm days like today make me glad I stayed in LA and didn’t accept U of Michigan’s acceptance and full ride.

    CAD,
Sometimes I get tired of the really nice weather in the winter. I have these coats I never get to wear because it’s just too damn warm. Heh.

    Kelly,
    Thanks! I like autumn.

    Gustavo,
I’m not sure. Is it the same one by Banda Blanca. I think they’re the ones who sing the song I’m thinking of.

    Jeff,
I’ve been to cold places in the winter. I’ve been to Boston in November (it was a very chilly weekend), New York City around New Years (it was not as cold as I expected, but I think that was becaus we were drunk all the time), and Chicago in early March. Oh yeah, it does snow in California. I used to go to the mountains all the time when I was a kid.

    Coco,
Thanks. I like it too… most of the time.

    Julissa,
You’re welcome to visit Cali any time. And I honestly can’t imagine driving in snow.

    Vicky,
You tell ‘em! The desert is nice in the winter, but every other time it’s unbearable.
