Rosaysela en el sorgo (Rancho los Laureles, Guanajuato)
I bought my ticket to go to Zacatecas and Guanajuato in December. This time, I won’t be going alone. I’m flying out of Tijuana with Papá Chepe and Mamá Toni and going with them to their house in Jeréz, Zacatecas. My parents, and tía Martha’s family will drive in right before Christmas. My parents and I will split our time between Salamanca and Jeréz where we’ll party it up for Christmas, New Years, a wedding and a couple of quinceañeras.
I can’t wait to be back at el Rancho los Laureles where a half-dozen of my uncles and their families live in a huge house with an equal number of add-ons. Rosaysela is one of a four kids I had a great time playing games with. I hope she remembers me.
What a great picture. Have an excellent time.
Buen viaje! Have some tamales and champurrado for me!
have a good trip. that’s a great picture. i think she looks a lot like you.
It’s a great picture! La niña esta preciosa!
Have a wonderful time in Mexico…y toma muchas fotos para nosotros.
I envy you…I haven’t been to Mexico in maybe 15 years! I need to return and see the rest of my familia.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Un fuerte y caluroso abrazo.
Cuidate!
Stunning photo! Do you think your cousin in it has seen it? Maybe it would be a way to break the ice with her saying “I brought this photo of you (when she was younger if that is true)” … then, she’d smile. Are your siblings going too? I spent one Christmas with my sister and her in-laws in East LA, we drove to TJ to take one of the relatives back to the airport there to fly back to Nayarit. I’ve never been to Nayarit, though, my sister has. I hope you have a great, great time!
mucha suerte! you should have told me you were going to be up at Berkeley, i would have marched next to you. yeah, too bad they had already voted on increasing fees. it seems that they don’t want poor people (specially poor people of color) at their universities. fuc. up.

“Que flores tan encendidas!” I love that song. wow, sounds like you will be having lot’s of fun. have a great time. Feliz dia de accion de gracias!
Cindy..that’s awesome. I’m not sure if I’m heading south this winter too. Anyhow, have a great time and take lots of pictures!
I’m so jealous. I’m not getting down to Mexico until late Jan. at the earliest and I won’t even get to roll through Gto. Let me know if you guys need a ride to the TJ airport from SD. I could use some more rompope anyway.
All my family is heading to Salamanca for Christmas this year but me. I hope you all have a great time. Saludos a Pemex.
…some rompope?? You’re gonna need like 3 bottles of that…haha
Kelly,
Thanks for the compliment. I expect to enjoy myself. Hopefully my pants will still fit when I return.
Xolo,
Can you believe my mom was talking about not making tamales this year? I wonder what she was smoking.
Irasali,
Our fathers are cousins, so I guess there’s bound to be some resemblance.
Coco,
I was tough for me to put up with these kids. Once I started playing one game with them, they wouldn’t let me stop. The worst part about it was that I wasn’t being too creative in thinking up games.
I hope you get to return soon. I visited in 2004, but it had been about 13 years since I went.
Frances,
I know my cousin has seen it. After each photo I took, the kids wanted to see how they looked (they got a kick out of the digital camera). I also sent back an album with this and other photos printed for the children and their parents to have. My siblings are staying, they all have work and can’t take the time off.
Tin,
I forgot that you’re in the Bay Area too. Oh well. Maybe next time.
Pedro,
Los Laureles is a perfect name for the rancho… it’s soooo beatiful and peaceful (well, except for the puercos, they stink!). Gracias, I hope you and your fam had a happy thanksgiving too.
Gustavo,
Oh, you know I’ll be taking tons of photos. I’ve never had rompope.
Oso,
Aw man, I thought we were going to have some time to hang out in the motherland. Oh well. Thanks for offering, but most likely, I’ll be going with my grandparents to their house in Tijuana the day before we fly out and then taking a taxi to the airport.
Hector,
Aw that sucks that they’re leaving you behind. I’ll say hi to Pemex for you.
Ok, when are you going to Jerez? Maybe we can finally meet????? LOL
