Mil palabras: Bruins everywhere

We are the mighty Bruins
Powell (College) Libary, UCLA

No matter the outcome of Saturday’s big game between UCLA (9-1) and USC (11-0), I’ll be satistifed.

There will be no kicking and screaming or a desire to inflict pain on anyone who wears the colors red and gold. I may still cringe everytime I hear that poor excuse for a fight song and hiss at the mere mention of the letters U and S and C in succession.

I also might randomly break into the Eight Clap or songs like “We are the Mighty Bruins,” “Hail to the Hills of Westwood” or “Rover.”

Even though I’m hoping la Tía Macaria will make her ánimas work in favor of a UCLA’s first victory since 1999 (she never heeded any of my requests for miraculous wins in baseball, I don’t think she was a fan), I’m also undeniably realistic and a bit of a pessimist. ‘SC has a 33-game win streak and is ranked 1 in the nation. We’re ranked 12. Still good, but the odds are against us.

Still, at the end of this season I may not have bragging rights for best football team in LA, but I sure will have memories of some exciting fourth quarters.

Go Bruins!

cindy, I believe that you probably won’t kick or scream… but no desire to inflict pain on USC fans?!? I don’t think you’ll get through the firt quarter without wanting to hurt one of those annoying bandwagon Trojan fans! it can’t be done.

The 2 USC fight songs are classic!
I thought I was going to root for UCLA but I dunno…we will see. Suerte!

Oh man. I can’t wait for the game. I seriously had a dream where i was showing off my UCLA sweatshirt collection, and I was still trying to buy more. Haha. but yet.I guess i’m thinking a lot more about UCLA and the game this weekend than I realised.

  5. I’m not much of a college football fan (or sports fan, for that matter), but this game is the exception. It should be a really good game, especially with the strong rivalry and closeness of the colleges. I’ve been to USC – it is the school that taught me all of the probability I know – and have many friends that graudated from there (your the only UCLA person I know, that I can think of), but even though I’ve never been to UCLA, the college still represents LA, and adding to that that me and you are kinda close, I will be happy with whatever the outcome is, even if UCLA wins.

But it is still going to be a great game, and even with my final on Tuesday, I’m going to sit my ass down for what should be a very entertaining game this Saturday.

Sports are, like, sooo bourgeois. Nonetheless, good luck to the bears of the UC of Los Angeles!
    GO DAVIS!

  7. Jeff says:

Good luck with your team. I hope they kick butt. I’m not a college football fanatic, but i’m a total NFL fan. I understand the rivalry and passion for the sport.

Hey, don’t squash any Griffindors by mistake!
(every year I make “Harry Potter Scarves” for all the sobrinitos, and just now realized that they could be mistaken for USC fans)

I have a feeling you would be very happy if your team wins Saturday, so goodluck to them! have a great day!

I don’t have a football team at my school, so I’ll cheer for yours. ;)

    DT,
I think you’re just going for UCLA because it would mean that UT would not have to play USC in the Rose Bowl on January 4th (by the way, I think it’s sad that Rose Bowl is not on the 1st, it just doesn’t feel right.)

    Joel,
I’m a peaceful person. I generally think ‘SC fans are more gung-ho about the rivalry than UCLA, and that was even when I was in the band. Besides, I got finals to worry about…

    Gustavo,
No they’re not. They play them like 85 times during a game. It is soooooo annoying.

    Brenda,
You have a sweatshirt collection? I only have two and I bought both of them in 1998. I don’t know why I don’t buy more considering there are times when I can by them for 33% off (like last week). Anyway, go Bruins!

    HP,
And that is one of the reasons why you kinda bored me. Just kidding. But no really, remember that Padres game we went to? The Breweres and Padres were tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 9th. You looked up from your homework and asked, “so does this mean they’re going in to overtime?” Good luck with your final. I should be done with the quarter by Friday. Good times.

    Profe,
But poor people play sports too!

    Jeff,
I live in LA, we have no pro football team. The two Division 1 NCAA teams are the closest we got. I think I’m fine with that.

    Ktrion,
I didn’t even think of that. My high school colors are the same as USC only because the man the high school was named after was a USC alumnus. The scarves idea is really cute. If I could knit, I might try it.

    Pedro,
    Of course I’ll be happy!

    CAD,
Thanks. I think we need all the cheers we can get, if that counts for anything on the field.

    Oso,
I did not. You took one like it ’cause I pointed them out to you. Hmph!
