Royce Hall, UCLA (January, 2005)
After class yesterday, my friend Arshad and I walked up to North Campus for lunch. As we walked through the Anderson School of Management we took notice of the very nice weather. The days immediately following rain are always the most beautiful in LA. Although both Arshad and I have been at UCLA for several years and know the campus well, I think even we’re awed of the beauty of the campus.
On another note, Arshad wasn’t all sunshine yesterday. During class he was being really strange, formal and polite. I looked at him weird, and then he said something that made a lot of sense, “I’m trying to be positive, that’s why it sounds fake.”
Classes, papers, projects, chunking, coding and fieldnotes may make us grumpy and lose sleep. However, I can’t help but be a bit positive when I get to come to such a nice place on a daily basis and my job is to think and write.
I’m blessed.
“However, I can’t help but be a bit positive when I get to come to such a nice place on a daily basis and my job is to think and write.”
amen to that.
Lucky you. I miss my days of walking around campus, especially on days when the skies are blue and the sun is out.
I guess i’ve taken my positiveness for granted. I don’t know if it’s my nature but I can’t think of myself or anyone else for that fact, not being positive all the time. I mean….if you’re not positive or at least try to be positive you’ll only be negative right?
that’a a beautiful campus! That looks like a castle!
That is a beatutiful building indeed!
exactly, “think and write” and i still we have it a lot easier than a lot of people. especially cuz the work we are doing needs to be done.
Everyone at our beloved school had their peaceful nook. My serene spot revolved around the north end of Royce and that lovely hump in the sculpture gardens. Sweet memories.
So I’ve been working on getting paid to think and write as well. Is there a code? I’d sure love to have it. ciao…

Kitti,
You gotta have perspective.
Brenda,
I find that now I’m confined to a couple buildings, but I don’t mind as much.
Jeff,
I have pretty cynical friends, being positive isn’t normal for us.
cad,
There’s another building (where I have my office) that looks even more castle-like.
Bonita,
The rest of campus is pretty lovely as well.
Tin,
Speaking of thinking and writing, I should be doing that too.
Alejandro,
I’ve never been a big fan of kicking it in the sculpture garden. I guess I always thought that the grass would be wet. I don’t know about a code for getting paid to think and write.
So, Brenda and I had an Avante-Garde class together in Haines, and Oso is a really good friend of my really good friend Revaz…
I’m Alejandro and I read your blog
…ciaosers!
