I honestly can’t remeber the last time all 6 members of my family went on a vacation together. I know the last time we all went to Mexico together was when I was about 10 years old. I know for sure that we haven’t done anything as a nuclear family since we’ve all become adults.
That’s all changing in a few days. My parents, three siblings, and two plus ones (Lori’s boyfriend and Adrian’s best friend) will be heading to Cancun and Cozumel.
I’m a little worried about the trip. There are 8 different people to please. I’ve become accustomed to going places alone and getting to do everything I want.
We haven’t even left yet and there was already drama when my siblings and I learned that our hotel was not in Cancun, but in Cozumel. My dad booked the hotel in Cozumel, where we have our timeshare, without realizing that it is an island. It’s not far from the Cancun airport and is a nice vacation spot. He considered changing hotels, but that would have been pricier. So, we’re staying in Cozumel, which means my siblings won’t get to party in Cancun as much. I don’t really mind the change of location or taking a ferry ride from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen to enjoy activities and sightseeing on the mainland.
Las Preguntas: When was the last time you vacationed or took a trip with your family? Was it stressful and do you have any advice?
Hmm..last time the entire family went on vacation?? well, my brothers never joined us for family trips..but i guess it would be when we all flew out for my sister Sabrina’s graduation from Brown. We had a roadtrip up the east coast. It was a pretty good time. Before that, was when i was in 8th grade and we went to Mexico for christmas. It’s hard to remember it being difficult or dramatic, bc I was too young to care. I was just happy I had my discman and funky colored shoelaces for my docs. However! Trying to plan a family trip to China has been a pain in the ass. We still can’t all decide when to go..So we’ll see if it even happens…
I hope you have a wonderful time though! I’m sure you will.:)
I really enjoy travelling in Mexico with my parents or anywhere for that matter. We don’t spend every minute of the day together, and interestingly enough they often meet people for me to hang out with!
Last summer we went to my professors house in San Miguel de Allende, then to Guadalajara where I was presenting a paper and finally lounged on the private beach of Las Hadas in Manzanillo, Colima…
At Las Hadas, I met two young Lawyers that worked for the voting tribunal. Although their vacation was cut a bit short by the recount, I asked them a question before they left.
Where should we visit next trip? They said the Mexican Nationals really do prefer Cozumel. On a clear night you can see Cuba…They had less good things to say about Cancun.
I like to travel like a national: I hope you have a great time
seven years ago, i took a trip to mexico with my mom. i made a mental note not to do it again. i love her and all, but traveling brings out different dynamics (i.e unpleasantness) in our relationship. before that, the last family trip with all four of us was when i was ten. i don’t remember much about that.
