I went to five stores yesterday in the hopes of getting my hands on a copy of Café Tacuba’s new album Sino. I had no luck. If I didn’t already have the mp3′s (thanks, Hector!) I would have probably kicked any one of the guys at Best Buy who tried to help me. They’re also streaming the whole album on myspace I tried these stores (in order):
- Best Buy (Westwood): I should’ve checked online before going because this location didn’t even have the album to begin with.
- Borders (Westwood): I wasn’t planning to go here, but it was on the way home. No luck.
- Best Buy (Culver City): nothing. I asked for help, the guy even checked in the back.
- Best Buy (West LA): nothing. I asked for help again. The guy who helped me told me they probably did have copies, but that they were in a box somewhere in the store and that they couldn’t get to them because some re-organization in the store.
- Target (Culver City): I didn’t think they’d have it, but I tried anyway. Their música Latina sections sucks. All I bought there was toilet paper.
I’m going to try Amoeba Records today. Hopefully they’ll have it because they’re usually pretty good at stocking “Latin alternative.” If I don’t find anything, well I guess there’s always purchasing it online.
I know there’s lots of reasons why people don’t buy CD’s anymore. I didn’t think not being able to find the album would be one of those reasons.
OMG I’m in love with “Quiero Ver!”!
I heard El Outsider at a Mun2 taping and I am still in love with that song. Too good.
I recommend going to Amoeba first, and then elsewhere. I know it can be a bit of a travel from the west side… but you probably would have saved time going there first to begin with than going to five places. hehe. (Assuming Amoeba even has it).
I bought it at target for $11.99 on Tuesday.
…i think theres too much singing that isn’t by Ruben on this album.
…maybe there isn’t but its just more noticeable.
It would seem the CD would have seen its last day with the advent of iTunes, but for some reason many of us still enjoy a packaged hard copy of an album [check out lala.com]. I lament, many “Musica Latina” sections suck. Our local Borders has even awkwardly lumped it into the World Music section. Cafe Tacvba Unplugged is one of my favorites even though I’ve always struggled to get into their studio albums.
I’m sure its at local swap meets everywhere along with unreleased material from Mana, Juanes, Molotov, RBD, and others. They got it all at swap meets or streets corners in the ‘hood.
Ingrata……no me digas que no encuentras….
LOL
Ironically enough I always use Amazon.com to purchase music because I can never find it locally anywhere. I should clarify that I purchase music that I’ve already heard (downloaded) because buying an entire CD with one or two good tracks is a waste of money.
Thank goodness for Torrents!
y te gustó?
I’m feeling the Radiohead much more y tu sabes cuanto me gusta a mi Cafeta.
Have you been able to find it yet? I desperately need to go get my copy.
DO NOT DO THIS, YOU SHOULD BUY THE CD AND SUPPORT YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST.
There are some people who search/google words such as
“Café Tacuba rapidshare” and find this.

And others who use sites like
http://vagos.es/
Come on homes, it’s not like you were ever gonna pay for it in the first place …
Why didn’t Cafe Tacuba go the Radiohead route? You should ask them the next time you chat.
maybe b/c they’re still under contract? I know Radiohead decided not to resign with anyone after their last contract ran out. Oasis and Jamiroquai are doing the same now.
Maybe it’s a brit thing.
diga no a la pirateria!
and then we wonder why latin bands are selling their music to peddle cars in commercials..
Bren,
Is “Quiero Ver” the new “Eres”? Hm. I wonder.
Raul,
I’m lukewarm on “Outsider.” I heard it described as the new “Eo.”
Urban Memo,
I tried going there on Wednesday and got frustrated with the traffic so I jus went home. Going to the 5 places wasn’t a big deal, traffic had died down when I visited the 3 last stores and I visited the first two on foot after I left work (and needed a walk after being at my desk most of the day). I went to Amoeba on Sunday. They did have it.
Haj20,
No, there is a lot more singing by the other guys so you can’t necessarily say Ruben is the lead singer. That bugs me. I miss his voice. Maybe westside Targets just suck and that’s why they didn’t have it?
Chano,
It’s been a while since I’ve bought a CD (but I do dl from iTunes). I think it’s mainly the lack of space to put new CD’s. Also, now that I have an iPod, I just don’t really listen to them unless I’m in my car.
Supa Dupa,
The swap meets are too far from here. I think.
Jeff,
Amazon works well, especially when it comes to the music from Mexico and South America that’s not widely released and hard to find (even in LA).
R.,
Sí, me gustó. I haven’t gotten around to dl’ing the Radiohead album, but I think I need to calm down on new music for a little while and just focus on what I already have.
María,
I found it on Sunday at Amoeba Records, a huge music store in Hollywood. Every other place I tried (I went back to two Best Buys on Friday) didn’t have it.
Mad Mexican,
I did buy the album, but it was tough to actually find it.
Oso,
I do pay for some stuff, especially when it comes to Café Tacuba. It’s like having the whole collection. If I bump in to them at another show, I’ll recommend it.
Gustavo,
I don’t think it’s bad to dl and album and sample it, see if you actually like it. It’s better than me than buying something and letting it sit on a shelf ’cause you don’t like it. On the other hand, both I and Hector (the guy who sent me the link to dl the album) purchased a copy. See, we’re not bad.
