Tell Astrid to try looking for them at the mercadito on 1st street and Lorena in ELA. Sometimes you can find these also at indoor swapmeets. There is suppose to be a huge mercadito in downtown, but I have never been there so I do not know exactly where it is located. Good luck!

Yes! This is definitely a queer-friendly costume. I was going to add Tina Modotti (the photographer) in the list with Diego Rivera and Trotsky, but I wasn’t sure if Frida actually had an affair with her.

I don’t know where you’d find a huipil and rebozo in LA aside from la Placita (aka Olvera Street). I bought the stuff I have in Mexico. Maybe you can see if relatives might have stuff?

As much as I adore Frida Kahlo… long ago I got tired of her over used image.

However, if you ever see any examples of Frida as a guy and take pictures… I am curious to see. I once tried doing it and I couldn’t pull it off.

This is great! I’ve actually been considering a Frida costume, but where does one find huipiles and rebozos in LA? Seems like an obvious question, but I haven’t owned a blouse since childhood. My gut instinct is Olvera Street and you KNOW they must go for a premium there. Even more fun is that my hair in braids is long enough to go from ear to ear… YES.
