However, I don’t need to hear more from the hipsters. I hear enough from them. I want to hear from the people of color.

Come on, is that really how you’re going to play it? Everyone knows by now that hipster is another word for middle class kid from the ‘burbs who would rather be identified as anything other than middle class kid from the ‘burbs. In other words, people like you and me.

Seriously, gentrification has way more to do with a change in class demographics than race demographics. But people aren’t willing to talk in terms of class because they are embarrassed no matter if they’re lower, middle, upper, or top dog.

We talk about stuff white people like, but every damn think on that list applies to the dozens of non-white kids I know from the ‘burbs.

White flight was once real, no doubt, but today’s gentrified neighborhoods are the few rare gems of diversity where people of different races, sexual preferences, and ages are all able to live and interact together. Which is why people like you and me love to live there so much. It is a shame that only those of us from middle class families can afford to live there.
