Come on, is that really how you&#039;re going to play it? Everyone knows by now that hipster is another word for middle class kid from the &#039;burbs who would rather be identified as anything other than middle class kid from the &#039;burbs. In other words, people like you and me.

Seriously, gentrification has way more to do with a change in class demographics than race demographics. But people aren&#039;t willing to talk in terms of class because they are embarrassed no matter if they&#039;re lower, middle, upper, or top dog.

We talk about &lt;a href=&quot;http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;stuff white people like&lt;/a&gt;, but every damn think on that list applies to the dozens of non-white kids I know from the &#039;burbs.

Which is why people like you and me love to live there so much. It is a shame that only those of us from middle class families can afford to live there.

Next time you&#039;re up here we&#039;re doing an ethnography of Oakland&#039;s hipster hangouts.</description>
