My summer never feels like it’s really started until I make a trip to the Hollywood Bowl. The first show this summer was the Grease sing-along. A couple of weeks ago, we returned for the Global Soul show featuring a slew of artists including Janelle Monáe, Grace Potter, Ceci Bastida, Sharon Jones (sans the Dap-Kings), and Stevie Wonder. Janelle Monáe was my favorite act of the night. She started off with “Smile,” made famous by Michael Jackson, sang her hit “Cold War” and finished off with an excellent cover of “I Want You Back” [video from another show].
